Information - Media Player Return to Support Home Page How do I make Windows Media Player my default media player? Many media files on JVSR.com are optimized to use Microsoft's Media Player. Although your computer may have installed several high quality media players, you may wish to use Windows Media Player as your default if you experience problems.. You can use a feature in Windows XP called Set Program Access and Defaults. This feature was created to allow users to select a default application when multiple applications compete for the control of files, for example, when you want to play .mp3 files. If you are using an operating system other than Windows XP, you must associate Windows Media Player with each desired file type. However, if you have other applications that compete for those file types, for example .mp3 or .mpg, then those applications may "take over" that file type, even after you have associated the file type with Windows Media Player. If this happens, you must delete the file type association in the other application.
