Sending Millennium Patient Data

This brief procedure shows how you send a patient's data from the Millennium software to share with others. We prepared this procedure for Millennium users who will share their data with journals such as the JVSR, other doctors, and so on.

This procedure is adapted from the Millennium manual section entitled "Creating a New Database to Share with Another Doctor." In this example, let's say you want to send to the JVSR scans for a patient named John Brown. The patient is in your main clinical database, which is a file named millmain.mdb.

Exporting and saving data for a single patient to a new file

  1. Choose Tools/Configuration and Maintenance, and select the Database tab.
  2. Press the New Database button.
  3. A window pops up that shows all current databases, with or without .mdb suffixes (depending on your system configuration.)
  4. Type the name of your new database (Brown would be a good name in this example) and click Save. You will get a confirmation message that your new database was saved. It will now be available when you click on Browse on the Database tab.
  5. Now, click Browse on the Database tab.
  6. Select "Brown.mdb" (or Brown, if you don't have suffixes showing) and press Change Database. This switches your system to use Brown.mdb as its current database.
  7. Now click the Import tab and chose Import Single Patient, and press IMPORT.
  8. When asked to select a database, select your main clinical database, which contains John Brown and his scans.
  9. After Mr. Brown is imported to the Brown.mdb database, open the patient view and verify that John Brown and his scans are visible.
  10. If you would like to, look through the scans by clicking on each scan. You will see a field for a scan note. If you wish, you can make a note in each scan that you wish the recipient (such as the JVSR) to view. Save each note by pressing the floppy disk icon.
  11. To save this database, close up the patient view, select Tools/Maintenance and Configuration and press the Backup tab.
  12. Select the Brown.mdb database to be backed up (again browse for and find the Brown.mdb database).
  13. Press Backup and specify where you want to back the database up. You can back it onto a floppy if you want to send it physically or transport it to a computer with email, or anywhere on your disk if you want to send it from this computer as an email attachment.
  14. When you're finished, use the Database tab to switch back to your original database.

For example, you can specify the name Brown for the backup, and the location c:\program files\cla\Millennium (the default location). This will create a file called Brown.zip in the c:\program files\cla\Millennium folder. You can then attach Brown.zip to an email message. Or, you can save Brown.zip to a floppy, take the floppy to another computer and attach it to an email message. Or, you can mail the floppy via physical mail.

Creating High-Resolution Graphics from the Millennium Program

To create high resolution graphics for scans sent by doctors using the Millennium software, you need to first prepare by installing two software packages, using the Preparation procedure. Then, each time a doctor sends a patient's data, you follow the Graphics Creation procedure.

Preparation Procedure

  1. Install the Millennium software from CD and start the Millennium program if not already installed.

  2. In the Patient Database Screen that appears, click on Test Patient, and double-click or right-click on any of the scans listed beneath the Test Patient.

  3. In the menu that appears, select "All Enabled Views". Verify that views are properly displayed. Depending on the scan type you chose, you will see one or more views. The Millennium software is now properly installed.

  4. Download and install the shareware screenshot2000 program.

Once the Screenshot 2000 program is installed, it runs by default in the background. Now you are ready to try a high-resolution graphics creation according to the next procedure. For practice, you can try it using the Test Patient that is preinstalled with the Millennium software, just start at Step 6 below.

Graphics Creation Procedure

Follow this procedure to create high resolution graphics from scans sent by doctors. Doctors are instructed to send scans in the form of databases containing one patient and zipped for easy sending. In this procedure you import the patient(s) sent into your standard Millennium database, and create high-resolution graphics of the views of the particular scans of interest.

  1. Unzip the file sent by the doctor to the c:\program files\cla\Millennium folder.
  2. Start the Millennium program, and select Tools/Configuration and Maintenance from the main menu.
  3. Click on the Import tab, select Import Single Patient, and press the IMPORT button.
  4. When prompted to choose a patient, only one patient should be listed (in addition to the Test Patient.) Select this patient, and the import is performed.
  5. Close the Configuration and Maintenance tab, and press the View Patients and Scans icon (leftmost icon), to open the Patient Database Screen. The patient and their scans should be visible in the screen.
  6. Select the patient and the scans you want to display (the doctor may have entered a note next to each scan to be used, or let you know in some other way) and arrange them as you like. (Please refer to the help file for options on displaying and arranging scan views.)
  7. Press the X button to remove the Patient Database Screen, and the Arrange Views button (6th from the left) to rearrange the views on the screen.
  8. Once you've set up the views as you like, press the PrintScreen key. Now the Screenshot 2000 program prompts you. First press the Next key.
  9. In the next screen use the Full screen option.
  10. In the next screen choose a scale size of 300%.
  11. In the next screen save the file as a jpg, with whatever naming conventions you use. Additional screens provide you with a variety of options for sending, zipping, etc.
