Patient Information - YOUR FIRST VISIT
YOUR FIRST VISIT
At Stone Family Chiropractic Center , our examination and adjusting procedures are geared toward detection and correction of the "Vertebral Subluxation" (click on this link to learn about subluxations). The procedures we use are specifically selected for your spine and the health of your nervous system. Your first visit takes approximately 1 to 1½ hours. When you arrive, you are asked to fill out some paperwork about your reason for seeking chiropractic care and past health history. To save time, click on the new patient form icon to download our new patient form. Please fill this out completely and bring it with you on your first visit. You may instead complete all of your paperwork in our office if you prefer. If you are a new patient who is coming to our office as a result of an auto accident, or you are under age 12, please do not download this form as we will give you separate paperwork at the office to fill out. There are several things that you should expect during your first visit at our office: 1) The first portion of your visit will consist of a review of your current and past health history, including your reason for seeking chiropractic care. We will consult with you and answer any questions you may have regarding the care you will receive at the office.
2) The next step is the examination, which will consist of a thorough spinal and nervous system review that includes palpation of the spine. This means we check your spine with our hands, feeling for areas that may be involved with subluxations. Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone are also examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxations. The muscles in these areas may feel tender or tight to you. We also perform range of motion and orthopedic and neurological tests when necessary. 3) Your examination also includes a computerized test called the Insight Millennium Subluxation Examination. This is a two-part exam that checks the health of your motor nervous system and your autonomic nervous system. The Thermal Scanner assesses autonomic function by measuring skin temperature differentials. Often times people have disturbances in their autonomic nervous system yet do not experience any pain. The second part of the test scans the surface of your spine for electrical impulses, detecting muscular activity from one level of your spine to another, as well as from the left to the right side. This measures the effect of subluxations on the motor nerve system and the resulting effect these may be having on your muscles. The Insight Millennium test gives us a baseline so we can accurately measure your progress to see how your nervous system is functioning during care. Using the Insight Millennium is more accurate to determine your health rather than just depending on "how you feel" on any given day. 4) Spinal X-rays may be taken depending on your age and situation. There are several reasons why we would not take x-rays on certain patients, including; pregnancy, most children, recent usable spinal x-rays and some other situations. Aside from these occasions, x-rays are a common part of the examination process when looking for vertebral subluxations. X-rays give us important information, including the specific position of the subluxated bone, the quality of the spine, and any possible contraindications to adjusting areas. The dosage level of the x-rays is lower than that used in a dental x-ray as well as daily sun exposure for one year. 5) With important information gathered during your examination, we can make a more accurate determination of the type of adjustments your spine needs as well as the initial frequency of your care. The results of your examination are explained to you during your second visit, the Report of Findings, which is also when most people will receive their first adjustment. YOUR SECOND VISIT Your second, most important visit to this office is your Report of Findings (test results) and it takes approximately 30 minutes. During this visit, your doctor explains the results of your initial examination, including the Insight Millennium scan and x-rays (if taken). You will be given a care plan that addresses your specific needs and that is designed to give you the best and fastest results possible. We want your active involvement in developing a care plan for you and we will make recommendations of things you can do yourself between visits to help you reach your goals more quickly. It is important that you be on time for this visit. YOUR HEALTH At Stone Family Chiropractic Center , we consider vertebral subluxations to be a serious threat to your health and your family's health. Unfortunately, most individuals wait until they are older and in pain or poor health before seeking chiropractic care. At Stone Family Chiropractic Center we welcome children into our office in order to prevent that from happening. We encourage you to bring your entire family, including children, to be checked for subluxations rather than waiting for problems to develop. We know you are worth it! |
