Conference Proceeding An Introduction and Review of the Diagnosis and Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder Shara K Bio Madock D Bio [May 7, 2008, p 16] Abstract
Introduction: In the United States approximately 3-5% of school age children are diagnosed with varying stages of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder). ADHD is diagnosed 4 to 9 times more frequently in boys than girls. It usually presents by the age of 3 years with the majority of children Interventions:The medical approach to ADHD focuses on an imbalance in neurotransmitters or abnormal glucose metabolism leading to central nervous system dysfunction. This is treated medically by stimulant type medications to facilitate function. Psychological interventions vary but some focus initially on Discussion: Various theories have been used to understand the prevalence of ADHD in the United States. One theory proposes that based on hunter versus farmer behavior, ADHD can be explained as a social construct rather than an objective disorder.
