Abstract

Abstract - Chiropractic has engaged in an ongoing struggle for a clear public identity. Unfortunately, many of its defining moments have been concerned with protecting and defending what little public identity it has developed. Whether it’s been through the jailing of it’s practitioners, the pursuit of state licensure, or the refuting of scandalous accusations from the media, government or legal profession, chiropractic has been compelled to withstand both overt and covert consternation. The question that remains now is if this vigilant resistance makes sense anymore. Perhaps this latest ungrounded association with stroke etiology serves as a final straw in a long and tedious process of professional identity. Maybe chiropractic’s days of overcoming adversity are ending. What will it do in the face of prosperity?
