Draft Version of this Cover
About the Cover: The staff of JVSR thanks Jack Harkins, D.C., a
Blair Practitioner, for contributing the radiograph depicting a "Protractoview"
of a 23 year old female patient. This view was taken anterior to posterior,
with the patient's chin turned 32 degrees to the left. The objective of the
protracto radiograph is to view the lateral margin of the condyle relative
to the lateral mass of the atlas (first cervical vertebra). Compared to a
normal relationship in which there would be no overlap between these two bony
structures, the radiograph, observed through the maxillary sinus, shows a
0.32 cm gap between the lateral mass of the atlas relative to the margin of
the left condylar margin. The Blair Listing System designates this
relationship as an anterior, superior atlas with its body positioned to the
left of the condylar lateral mass (ASL). Interested readers may contact Dr.
Harkins at 379 Manor Lane, Marlton NJ 08053, (609) 988-8884.
